3rd GENERATION PANEL ART
As you could probably tell, from looking over my
DIY Synth pages, the artwork for these synth control panels, has
evolved over time. My first panels where made with spray paint & a
label maker and then sealed with a clear coat. Eventually I
can up with the current system I use now. First, I generate some panel
artwork, using a cool little drawing program call Draw
4.0 by Greenstreet . Second, I print the artwork out on
my inkjet printer, on glossy photo paper in high resolution.
Use a
high quality photo paper to prevent bleed through problems,
later. I use this paper artwork as a template to mark the panel
with a scribe or awl, to mark the places to drill the metal panel blank
so true alignment can be achieved.
Next,
after the holes are drilled,
the glossy
artwork is lined up and glued to the metal panel.
After the
excess paper is trimmed from the edges and holes, I seal the
paper edges with a thin bead of white glue to keep the finish coat
from soaking in
. I,
then cover the whole front surface with Envirotex ,
that clear epoxy stuff that is used on bartops and the like.
This system
provide a real professional look and alot of durability.
