    TIMEWELL Spring Reverb

Recently ,I've begun work on a spring reverb, for a sound engineer friend of mine.He was frustrated by the constant break downs ,of the Tube based reverbs,he was touring with,& wanted a more reliable solid state spring verb.
I chose the Hot Springs Reverb;a circuit designed by the legendary Craig Anderton,& sold as a kit ,by Paia. I wanted to build the thing into an old radio, but had some bad luck in acquiring one,as one was completely destroyed ,in shipping ,& others ,I was outbid on. So I decided to construct my own retro radio looking case.

This is the front panel in a rough stage. It is solid oak.

A hole is added ,that will later accommodate a mini plasma ball display.

Here is a better front view,Next ,I will add a walnut  detail ,to the center, before building the rest of the wooden enclosure.Hot Springs Reverb

OK ,with the top put on & cherry vineer added ,plus one on many more coats of Shellac. Next;I start the insides..This is a shot of the artwork for the front panel. The stainless steel mesh, can also be seen.

At this point ,all the circuit boards are tested & working.Once I figured out ,that I needed a preamp,to run the input of the reverb,I thought ,I would try one of the analog amp simulators,I found on Runoffgroove.com.These circuits replicate the sound of some famous tube amps by using JFETs transistors, because they behave very much like tubes.I choose a Fender Tweed, ampsim,& man,I like it!
Hot Springs reverbThe ampsim has a Drive ,Tone,& a Master,So sounds ,from super clean ,to blues/crunch,can be had. That signal,is split into two outputs, one is a direct out,& the other goes to the Reverb. The Reverb has a trim control to keep from clipping the reverb tanks & a Dry/Wet control ,that sets the ratio of dry to wet sound. There will also be a red LED that shows when the reverb is clipped. The reverb sound then goes through a phazer section, that can add subtle,to wild filtering to the reverb sound,or can be completely bypassed. The controls for the phazer are,Reso (filter peak),Rate (sweep time),Depth(strength of effect) & %FX(amount of effect) Hot Springs reverb
Here is a photo of the circuit boards, from the underside of the chassis.

Here are the two splitter/buffer boards ,that are used to buffer the effects, from each other ,& blend them ,together.

& no effects unit can run, without power. Here is the PSU that runs the whole show; A plus/minus 15 volts,by Paia. Not pictured ,is the little,5volt suppy,I put together,to run the Plasma Ball.
Next step;put it all in the case & mount the plasma ball.

Here is the whole thing ,turned upright,so you can see the two reverb tanks.

There are Balenced & unbalenecd ,outputs, for both the wet & dry signals, with ground lift switches ,for the balenced outs & a phase switch for the Wet output.
There is an AC input & a switch to power up the Plasma display.
