    PlasmaTron

PlasmaTron             PlasmaTron is an analog bass synthesizer and a LowPass/BandPass filter with LFO and a Plasma display, all built into a portable case. The idea, was to build everything oversized, to enhance the theatrical aspect of this synth. This synth was really built for the greatest impact at a live show, where it could be the center piece of any Techno or synth based music production.     Plasmatron Bass Synth
There are two sides to the PlasmaTron. The synth side is a BassAce Bass synth by EFM. It is a monophonic analog synthesizer, with Midi In & Out,
a built in filter ,VCA, & envelope generator. All control voltages can be accessed via the row of banana jacks at the bottom of the unit. The two meters, at the top move with the control voltages, are more for effect than any kind of measurement. The PCboard is mounted behind a magnafieing lense, & back lit by two 12 inch Cold Cathode lamps. The lense is hinged, & can be flipped up to allow easy access to the PCB. The lamp has it's own switch so it can be turned on or off. All control knobs are jumbo sized for maximum dialing pleasure. The midi input channel is set by the row of four black switches. Any one of 16 midi channels can be set by the position of these switches.PlasmaTron Bass SynthPlasmatron    PlasmaTron
The Filter side is a Moog type ladder filter that is switchable to BandPass or LowPass filter types.Plasmatron Bass SynthPlasmaTron Bass Synth

The filter has three inputs controled through an intergated mixer section, each with its on volume control. There is a resonace and a cutoff scale control that scales the center point of the cutoff frequency, that is controled by the large handle on the side of the unit. The filter can be made to self oscillate & is a lot of fun to sweep using the large cutoff handle control. There is a built'in LFO that can be patched in to the filter CV for automated filter effects. The LFO has a Joystick to control the speed & depth,a hi & lo range switch and a choice of Triangle,Ramp or Square wave shapes. There is a built in fan to help cool the internal power supply .The fan may be switched off for quieter operation.  The large glass disk,on the upper part of the unit is a plasma display. This display can run in auto mode or can react to sounds picked up via an internal microphone .The pattern and sensitivity can also be controled.
